Here are a few tips when planning the Destination Wedding of your dreams.

*Send out save the date cards as early as possible so your guests have time to take time off of work, budget and arrange for babysitters.

*Remember all areas of the world have different requirements when being wed including waiting periods, blood tests and witnesses.

*Many countries need your vital information translated into an Apostile which requires additional time.

*Brides! Remember that your passport has your maiden name and you will not be allowed to travel under your married name until you have your passport ammended.

*If you have children that will be attending remember not to choose an adults only resort. They do not have to let any children in even for the ceremony. 

Your budget is a huge factor in a destination wedding. Remember to set a budget and to be realistic. Locations will vary greatly in the total cost. This is affected by many factors including the availability of air travel, time of year and choice of property. As with most things you will get what you pay for so if you are booking a 2 star resort you need to keep that in mind.

*Many resorts will offer "Free Weddings" just remember that is usually a base package and may require a certain amount of rooms reserved at that hotel. You may want to add on special touches such as a carriage, reception, DJ, additional flowers. These items will vary in cost by each resort.

*Everyone (including infants and children) are now required to have a passport and the passport should be valid for up to 6 months beyond your return date.

*Travel insurance is a must! When planning a wedding so far in advance life can take many unexpected twists and unforseen turns. Protect your investment. Many plans will refund the entire cost of your vacation less the intial insurance premium cost.

*Remember that you are chosing to get married in a different country and not the United States. Many countries do not process things as quickly as we would expect them to be done here in the US.

*With that being said you are in a different country and the standards will not be the same as in the US. Read plenty of reviews to get a realistic opinion on the resort and area.
